Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you like my site :)

If I understand correctly, you want to cover each cake with marzipan, stack them on top of each other, cover the stacked cakes with marzipan as a single tall cake, and then cover this with fondant? I think that this would work, however, and this is just my opinion, it's a lot of marzipan and would give the cake quite a strong taste.

For the double height cake in this blog post, I had each fruit cake on a separate cake board and individually covered before stacking because the couple were planning to separate the cakes and keep one and serve the other. Otherwise, what I would've done (and what I suggest you do) is stack the cakes directly on top of each other with a single cake board under the bottom cake. Then apply the marzipan layer over both cakes as a single tall cake, then the fondant layer.

Good luck!

looks beautiful!
im making a double height stacked fruit cake for part of my sisters wedding cake.. i was unsure how to do the layers (since this is my first big cake!)

i was thinking i would put a layer of marzepan between the layers, as well as around the cake under fondant. i know this wouldnt have been an option for you in this case, but do you think this is a good idea?

thank you! (im glad i stumbled upon this website - its fantastic!)

I'm just now reading this. I was looking for instructions on making high heel shoes and came across your blog. Which is great, by the way. I noticed you said the scammer might be American. No, no, no. We Americans are a stickler about our English and grammer. If this person was American, they had to be trying awfully hard to sound uneducated. We get these scams all the time in our emails. And the English is always the same. Now I just spam them. But on another note, your blog is one of the best I've seen and read in a long time. It's great. And your cakes are just amazing. Congratulations on the baby, which you'll find to be two full time jobs. But sooooo worth it. And keep up the great work.

I have a grown-up girl so unluckily can't give handy advice, but I think you made the right decision. You will be able to make many cakes in the future but the time with a new-born is so precious... I think it's a shame to become over stressed trying to manage cakes and screaming babies at the same time. I think you will know exactly when the time has come to go back to cakes and business. Best wishes, Susanna
P.S hope you will find time to update your lovely blog ;)

I had that same fellow send me that emial last year. I was quite suspicous about it as well. He asked me for cc details and the only way he could pay was that way. I told him well that is to bad because I don't give out credit card details at all.

I laughed and cried when I read your post. This exact same thing happened to me - except I'm in Australia and we had a dry warm wind blowing the day I made my cake and didnt realise the front door was open and my massive air bubble (right in the middle center) had formed and set hard because of the wind!!!!! I nearly died - I did pop it but the icing was wrinkled and looked horrible! I didnt have time to make another so that is where we placed the candles.... over my major opppppsss! :( It ended up coming out ok in photos - so I was happy!
